Digital Recruitment Review

Identifying barriers in online recruitment

Partnering with the Scottish Union of Supported Employment (SUSE), testing online recruitment processes. Helping employers identify barriers within their online experience and providing them with the tools to improve their online accessibility, build more user friendly digital experiences and open their doors to a wider pool of talent.

User Testing
To help champion accessible recruitment I worked with SUSE on their Digital Recruitment Review Scheme. This included researching, preparing and hosting moderated user testing sessions. Working with volunteers, each with their unique experiences as disabled people in the workforce, to test the job application processes for various employers. Giving the employers detailed feedback and suggestions for improvement.

Through these sessions, I’ve gained a fresh outlook on user experience, which I bring to all of my design projects. It’s always great getting to meet and work with our incredible volunteers at every session.

Building a brand
Due to the success of these sessions, I am currently working to develop a brand for the Digital Recruitment Reviews, with the goal of helping SUSE to grow and develop their review service into a certification for employers!

Empowering Employers
Running the testing sessions since 2019 helped us observe how users interact with the web and gain really great first hand knowledge around what helps to make an accessible recruitment process, particularly when it comes to application forms.

The WCAG guidelines on accessibility can often feel like a mind-field of information which, dare I say it, makes it’s somewhat in-accessible to some users. We wanted to take what we had learned from the user testing sessions and share this knowledge with employers in an easy to understand digital guide, that focused on creating forms.

I teamed up with SUSE to not only design, but to co-write the content for the digital guide. Our main aim was to help employers feel empowered to make change - without the need to be a web developer!

“As an organisation we are thankful to have had the Digital Recruitment Review and receive these very actionable reports. They are very helpful: succinct, easy to read and in an inclusive format.”
